New Year. Reflect on the Old. Exciting Times Ahead

January 2023.

Wow! Just like that it’s 2023.

Happy New Year everyone.

I hope you all had a peaceful and happy holiday season, whether you celebrate Christmas or not.

I would just like to say a massive thank you to all the wonderful people that I met over the last year, especially to everyone who bought work from me and supported my new business; it really does mean so much.

It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to meet you and share my art with you this year.

I know it’s a cliché, but as an artist, you do put a little bit of yourself into all your paintings and so you can feel quite vulnerable and exposed and a little bit nervous about putting yourself and your work out there. I needn’t have worried though because everyone has been so lovely and complementary. I have been blown away by the responses; humbled and overwhelmed by all the beautiful encouraging things you have said and written in my little notebook.

It genuinely means the world to me.

Those of you who know me personally will know my health hasn’t been great recently. I have been struggling with long covid. It’s not been much fun, so as a way to help heal myself, get my eye back in, motivate myself and build my strength, focus and self-discipline I have been taking part in the www.stradaeasel.com @stradaeaselchallenge2023. The challenge is to produce a new work of art from life (painting or drawing) for each of the 31 days of January. There is the added incentive of winning one of their amazing plein-air easels and so far, despite the added handicap of a painful back injury, I am still hanging in there.

If you want to see what I have been up to, the images will be on my Instagram, FB page until the challenge has finished.

It’s crazy to think that this time last year all of this was just a dream.

This time next month I will be heading off to the Bath Art Fair with my paintings. I have some new work to take with me that’s never been seen before.

I’m absolutely over the moon about this as Bath is one of the big art events that I used to dream about being accepted for and now I am going to be there; Me! in person. I will be on stand 80, by the way. Please come and say ‘Hi’ if you’re around; it would be lovely to see you.

You can follow what I’m up to on my Instagram page www.instagram.com/helen.brown.art

Hope to see you soon
